Ernest Benjamin, Jr., Senior Vice President & a Chief Underwriter within Walker & Dunlop’s FHA Multifamily and Healthcare platform, is responsible for oversight of the loan evaluation and approval process from concept through closing. Over his career, Ernest has personally underwritten and closed more than $500 million in loans including over $200 million of healthcare loans (assisted living and skilled nursing facilities) across the continental U.S. Ernest has structured and underwritten multiple property skilled nursing portfolios, transportation-oriented developments, Green construction developments, as well as various affordable housing transactions. Ernest is a senior member of the FHA platform which has routinely funded over $1B in loans annually as an industry leading FHA lender.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop in 2009, Ernest was a consultant with Deutsche Bank Berkshire Mortgage and a Risk Officer/Underwriter with Wachovia Multifamily Capital, where he began his career in 2001. Ernest has a B.A. from the College of William and Mary. He completed the Mortgage Banker Association’s Future Leader Program in 2017 and completed Harvard Business School’s Real Estate Management Program in 2018.
